F06 Monitor Points to Excel

Engineering Tools — F06 Monitor Points to Excel (00332)

What this tool does

Reads a Nastran F06 and pulls every MONPNT3 block — Structural Integrated Free Body Monitor Point Loads — into one Excel table. One row per monitor point × subcase, with the six load components and the force and moment resultants, ready to filter, envelope or plot.

The F06 is read line by line, so a file of several hundred MB is fine — the monitor-point blocks are a tiny part of it. All rows go to Excel in one bulk write at the end.

When you want it

  • Section-cut loads across many subcases. MONPNT3 gives you the integrated load through a cut; this puts every cut and every subcase side by side instead of paging through the F06.
  • Enveloping. Filter by monitor point, sort on FZ or M_resultant, pick the critical subcase.
  • Hand-calc inputs. Joint, fitting and splice checks that need interface loads in a known system — copy them straight out of the table.

How to use it

  1. Run the Nastran job with MONPNT3 monitor points defined, so the F06 contains the STRUCTURAL INTEGRATED FREE BODY MONITOR POINT LOADS (MONPNT3) blocks (printed letter-spaced in the F06).
  2. Open Custom Tools > Post Processing > F06 / Excel Export > F06 Monitor Points to Excel and click OK. (Help opens this page.)
  3. Pick the F06 in the file dialog. The filter defaults to *.f06; switch to All files if yours has another extension.
  4. The message window reports how many rows were parsed and how long it took, then Excel opens with the workbook. It is a new, unsaved workbook — save it where you want it.

Output columns

The data sheet is called Monitor Points, with a bold, frozen header row and auto-fitted columns. A README sheet in front of it records the source F06, the row count, the Excel user name, the date, the script version and a link back to this page.

Notes & limitations

  • Values are copied as printed. No unit conversion and no coordinate transformation. Forces and moments are the REST. APPLIED values about the monitor point, in system CD.
  • Rows follow the F06. They come out in the order the blocks appear, not sorted — use Excel’s sort and filter.
  • Incomplete blocks are dropped. A row is written only once all six components (CX through CMZ) have been read. A block cut short by a new MONITOR POINT NAME = line or the end of the file is discarded.
  • What the parser keys on. Every MONITOR POINT NAME = line starts a block, and each component is the first number after its CX … CMZ label. That matches the MONPNT3 table. If the same F06 also carries other monitor-point output in that shape, those blocks are picked up too — check the rows.
  • A subcase that cannot be read as a number is written as 0.
  • One F06 per run. Excel must be installed. The tool has no settings to remember.
  • If the F06 has no monitor-point blocks, the tool says so in the message window and no workbook is created.
